Do you believe in miracles?

March 12, 2019 started out as a normal day, I (Ed Kosiec) ran 10 miles for my marathon training, went to a yoga class, ran a few errands and decided to have lunch at Chick-fil-A Boynton Beach Blvd. with my wife, Holly. It was at that Chick-fil-A I lost consciousness and our entire family's life changed forever.

Chick-fil-A Executive Operations Director, Cassie, quickly assessed the situation and found the one person (in the entire restaurant) that knows CPR - Sarah. Sarah, a high school senior in the medical program at Boynton Beach Community High School and Chick-fil-A employee comes to the rescue. This calm, cool, collective girl takes what she learned in school to perform CPR and brought me back to life.

Moments later, Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Department Stations #2 and #3 arrive to the scene. 4 shocks and 22 minutes of persistence later I am stabilized and on my way to JFK Medical Center. After many test, I am told that I did not have a heart attack, but that I went into sudden cardiac arrest.

5 days later, I am released from the hospital equipped with a new ICD / implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (my new life insurance policy).

Life since then has been different. I find myself asking, “Why did this happen to me? I was in the best shape of my life” “Will life ever be normal again?” As time passed, I began asking myself, “How can I prevent this from happening to someone else?”

Fast-forward to today. In July 2019, I got my certification to instruct CPR classes and decided to open up this Non-profit, Every Second Counts CPR. My family and I’s goal is to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and teach the public CPR in hopes to increase the survival rates in South Florida.

Thank you for your interest in our organization. CPR saves lives.
